Press Release

New technology from Sirrus allows loved-ones all around the globe to share the "I do's"

An innovative technology called Wedding Watch has been developed, which allows family and friends to view weddings as they take place, live on the internet from anywhere in the world.

The new system has been pioneered by Sirrus, a UK company that specialises in the design and implementation of Remote Vision Systems, allowing Wandsworth Borough Council to broadcast weddings from its registry office via the web.

Todd and Jamie Meadows who were recently married in what's believed to be the first ever 'live' web-wedding from a registry office in the UK, were delighted with the service. "We were ecstatic that our family and friends in Western Australia were able to be with us and watch the wedding while it took place in London. They saw us exchange our vows in real time which enabled them to pop the champagne at the appropriate moment at the barbie back home."

Wendy Robinson from the Wandsworth Borough Council comments: "Through our Registry Office we are pleased to be able to offer couples who cannot have all their family and friends with them for their special day the opportunity to share in the occasion - wherever they are."

Paul Davey, Sirrus' MD, is pleased the technology is making a difference: "In this day and age with families scattered across the world, it is not always possible for everyone to be present on that special day. Wedding Watch from Sirrus however can help bring people together to celebrate the momentous occasion despite vast distances."

The process behind Wedding Watch involves two network-enabled remote vision cameras within the registry office, both networked to a web server where the images are relayed to the 'net. "Net-Guests" only need a regular browser to see the marriage ceremony live on their computer screen, anywhere on earth.
