Sirrus CCTV Serves Power Station Retrofit
In partnership with a multinational installer, a 'dual' Sirrus CCTV installation has this month been commissioned at Dartford in Kent and at Thurrock in Essex. This unusual power station installation moves power generated on the south bank of the river Thames alongside the Dartford crossing, through a high-voltage under-river power line to Thurrock in Essex to support power usage there.
The two sites are equipped with wirelessly connected IP cameras all linked to the main buildings, where an under-river fibre link joins the two halves of this networked system. Operator workstations in both Dartford and Thurrock are each able to see and record all the cameras on both sides of the river.

Sirrus NVRs assist school security
Sirrus has supplied a number of 1000 GByte IPVR-215 Network Video Recorders as part of a security system in a private school in Wiltshire. The school, occupying four separated sites, uses lease-line connections of limited bandwidth to link the sites together. Having abandoned a competetive system which caused link blockages through excessive bandwith usage, the schools' IT manager confirmed that Sirrus' 'tunable' bandwidth consumption was just what he needed to manage the issue. "We only have 2Mbps in total on a couple of the links" he commented. "So it is imperative to constrain the amount used by the CCTV else we block out everything else. The Sirrus viewing clients allow us to limit the traffic used and so make best use of our links".
