Sirrus was originally founded in 1998 by two design engineers formerly from the Defence and Broadcast TV industries. Their aim was to design and develop innovative digital video products for the CCTV sector. As the IT world developed alongside, it was clear very early in the life of the company that IP would be a central theme in the future of CCTV, so we concentrated on IP-based technology (where CCTV cameras are connected over Ethernet and IP networks rather than dedicated cables). In 2000, the company raised significant equity funding to expand operations and extend product development.
Also in 2000, Sirrus developed the world's first family of "turn-key" (network-appliance) Network Video Recorders (NVRs), the IPVR-100 series, soon followed by the more powerful IPVR-200 series.
Since then, new NVR series have been in continuous development in the shape of our IPVR-2xx and IPVR-3xx families, and our NVRs have been in continuous production for more than nine years. The next family, our IPVR-400 series, is on the bench in development now.
As well as Network Video Recorders (NVRs), we manufacture Viewing Client software for IP cameras and Video Virtual Matrix products for building IP CCTV systems. Our philosophy has always been to develop products are all multi-manufacturer-compatible, so you are free to mix-and-match many different makes of IP camera when using our NVRs and Virtual Matrices.
Licencing
The software cores developed for our NVR families and for our Virtual Matrix are all licenceable to other manufacturers. Doing this allows you to manufacture complete NVR and Virtual Matrix products under your own name in your own market. Contact the directors via enquiries @ sirrus.co.uk for more details.
